About Accommodation

Situated along the N2 National Road, midway between Cape Town and George, lies Swellendam the 3rd oldest magisterial district in South Africa.

As you approach this very scenic town, be it from the east or the west, there can be no doubt as to why travellers of all times have known it to be a place of rest, a place where body and mind will be replenished by the most beautiful vistas and the unsurpassed feeling of a sense of history.

Swellendam nestles at the foot of the beautiful Langeberg Mountains so typical of the region.

The ostensibly touchable mountains are only minutes away. Beautiful hiking trails and two nature reserves along the Koornlands and Breede Rivers, are within walking distance. The fresh air remains unpolluted as Swellendam does not boast industries. The farming community and the inhabitants of Swellendam coexist in close proximity of these beautiful surrounds and the bounty of its foodfields. Needless to say, it is the hospitality of Swellendam that conveys the true spirit of the Overberg.

Upon entering the town, the beautifully maintained old historical buildings and dwellings meet the eye. White limewashed walls with the traditional monument green woodwork, tipifies the Cape Dutch Style. The Drostdy Museum landmark with its open-air complex consists of several such historical buildings.

Anna’s Collection is home to MOOLMANSHOF (1798), said to be the oldest house still standing in Swellendam and Bo-Kapie Self Catering Cottage (1833)

It is here where your host, Lizette Hendry is doing a splendid job publicising the Overberg to visitors from all over the world.

Lizette spends her time lovingly tending these old gems, each punctuated with memories and artefacts commensurate with its age. Fresh flowers, textiles, homemade rusks and cookies, open hearths, log fires and Overberg friendliness are just some of the delights you can expect – old things beautiful in their humbleness.
