Overview
High in the mist-wreathed hills of western Kenya is a towering volcanic giant, crowned by a vast caldera etched by glacial tarns, honeycombed by labyrinthine caves, fissured by valleys and cascaded by streams. Visitors can explore the forest, see the elephant caves and also enjoy biking, hiking, and rock on the eighth highest mountain in Africa, Mount Elgon.

It is safe to swim in the sea and swimming pools, but it is not recommended to do so in lakes, rivers and open reservoirs as they may be infested with bilharzia parasites. Drinking water from these places is not advisable. Tap water is safe to drink unless otherwise indicated.

Best time to visit mount elgon. Mount Elgon national park is open to tourists all year round. However some seasons provide a better experience than others. The best time to climb Mount Elgon is during the dry seasons between June-August and December-March.
